About Steve Staudenmeir
For decades, Steve Staudenmeir admired art from the sidelines while building a successful career in information technology management and consulting. Though the desire to paint was always there, time was short. Retirement finally unlocked the door to his lifelong passion.
Seeking to uncover a creative spark inspired by his grandmother’s old drawings, Steve began experimenting with watercolor on paper and was surprised to discover a natural aptitude for the medium. To take his skills to the next level, he sought formal training and began studying under Richard Stergulz, co-founder of The Green Art House in Fallbrook, California. Today, Steve credits several years of weekly lessons with Stergulz for shaping his technique and fueling his ongoing success as a rising artist.

Steve’s Story
Steve continuously refines his technical craft through ongoing weekly studio sessions led by Richard Stergulz at The Green Art House in Fallbrook. He is a frequent participant in exhibitions and local art events across Murrieta, Temecula, and Fallbrook, and has been honored to be selected by the City of Temecula to display his work at various city facilities.
Like many artists, Steve began his journey by painting in a traditional, realistic manner. However, his creative voice truly began to emerge as he embraced highly saturated colors, intentionally breaking away from the muted tones typical of traditional watercolor. Driven by a desire to create a signature aesthetic, he turned to the early 20th-century avant-garde for inspiration.
Steve found his unique stylistic niche at the intersection of two radical art movements born out of the Post-Impressionist era:
• Fauvism: Embracing vibrant, unnatural, and wildly contrasting colors to express raw mood and deep emotion.
• Cubism: Deconstructing everyday subjects into their foundational geometric shapes and planes.
In his latest work, Steve actively forged a path that merges these two worlds. His creative process begins with traditional photography, which he then reimagines using artificial intelligence to completely transform the structure and color palette. This innovative technique has proven completely versatile, allowing him to breathe a bold, modern life into diverse subjects—from sprawling landscapes and dynamic cityscapes to architecture and wildlife.
Deeply rooted in the Southern California art community, Steve is a highly active leader, mentor, and advocate for local arts. His current roles and affiliations include:
